The Official Stuff….

We are a Community Interest Company, which means that we invest 100% of any profits we make back into our activities. We are focused on the arts, nature and wellbeing and our vision is a society where everyone can live healthy, active and fulfilled lives.

Our Primary Aims:
- To support people in Hackney to develop skills and confidence and reduce isolation; and live healthy, active lives; particularly amongst those experiencing significant mental health challenges
- To support frontline staff, particularly in mental health services, through training and other activities that support their wellbeing, confidence and skills
- To develop inclusive arts and heritage projects across London that enhance wellbeing, individual empowerment and bring communities together, particularly with environmental themes and in collaboration with BIPOC, LGBTQ+ communities and those experiencing mental health issues

Unlike the Board of a Charity, our Directors are legally permitted to be paid by the organisation- but they must be paid for work supporting the organisation’s objectives, and their earnings must be declared to the CIC Regulator every year.

Our Directors meet Quarterly to oversee the running of the organisation, and we also consult our Advisors regularly.

Our finances are overseen by our accountants- the brilliant Harris Accountants (also a CIC!): https://harrisaccountancy.co.uk

Our most recent accounts can be found here: Social Material CIC- Accounts 2020-21

Our previous accounts and other information about the CIC can be found on the Company’s House website: Social Material CIC- Company’s House.

We are insured by Zurich and we have recieved a number of grants from Hackney Council, for whom we carry out regular ‘due dilligence’ on our work and policies (i.e. they support us to check that we’re doing everything as best we can and following the best guidance on how to run an organisation).

We have a number of policies to help us in our work. The latest versions can be found here:

Equality and Diversity

Safeguarding of Adults at Risk

Health and Safety

Child and Young Person Protection

If you have any questions about how we run or our management processes, please do come and chat to us at a workshop or gathering, or get in touch via our contact page.
